BAFIERTAM: Monomethyl fumarate, delivered directly1
Not actual patient
Proven, long-term efficacy2-4
Good tolerability with a well understood safety profile1
No food or alcohol restrictions1
Comprehensive patient support* with Cycle Vita™
Three fumarates, only one goes direct
BAFIERTAM belongs to the fumarate class of DMTs; a class proven and effective at reducing the risk of disease progression.5
Other fumarates, Tecfidera® (dimethyl fumarate) delayed-release capsules and Vumerity® (diroximel fumarate) delayed-release capsules, are prodrugs that require metabolic conversion, produce metabolic byproducts, and may come with more severe GI side effects or lifestyle restrictions, respectively.6-8
BAFIERTAM benefits

Established efficacy
BAFIERTAM has been shown to reduce the number of relapses, delay disability progression, and slow the development of brain lesions.2,3,9

No dietary restrictions
BAFIERTAM has no alcohol restrictions and can be taken with or without food.1

Reduced GI side effects
Better GI tolerability profile than Tecfidera.8
Maintained lymphocyte count
When switching from dimethyl fumarate (DMF), BAFIERTAM may be the better option for maintaining a healthy lymphocyte count.10

Quick elimination in 24 hours
BAFIERTAM has a plasma half-life of 0.5 hours, which may facilitate timely elimination after discontinuation.1

Comprehensive patient support*
Cycle Vita is here to offer your eligible BAFIERTAM patients the clinical, educational, and financial support they need to navigate their treatment.
The data
BAFIERTAM may be the better option for maintaining absolute lymphocyte counts (ALC) when switching from Tecfidera or generic DMF.10
A single-center, retrospective study conducted at Vanderbilt University Medical Center examined the effects of fumarate switching on ALC and lymphopenia in 72 patients. Patients either switched from DMF to Vumerity or to BAFIERTAM, mostly due to insurance and financial reasons.10
Results showed that patients switched to BAFIERTAM:
- Were less likely to develop lymphopenia. 0% of BAIFERTAM patients had lymphopenia post-switch, compared to 56% of patients who switched to Vumerity.10
- Had 1.8 times higher average ALC at follow-up, compared to patients who switched to Vumerity (p<0.001).10

BAFIERTAM has proven efficacy against MS.2,9
BAFIERTAM is bioequivalent to dimethyl fumarate (DMF). In the two-year, placebo-controlled DEFINE study, DMF was proven to:

Reduce annualized relapse rate (ARR) by
53%

Reduce disability progression by
38%

Reduce T1 hypointense lesion development by
90%

Reduce T2 lesion development by
85%2
BAFIERTAM has no alcohol restrictions and can be taken with or without food, while maintaining bioequivalence to DMF.1
On the other hand, for Vumerity to remain bioequivalent to DMF with food, there is a limit of 700-calories and 30-g fat per meal, and Vumerity cannot be taken with alcohol.7,11,12

BAFIERTAM has a better GI tolerability profile compared to Tecfidera.8
In a 5-week, head-to-head study comparing BAFIERTAM to Tecfidera, individuals taking BAFIERTAM had less severe and fewer GI events.8 Although the main analyses of the study did not reach statistical significance, based on the totality of data from this study and previous single dose studies comparing BAFIERTAM and Tecfidera, BAFIERTAM seems to show improved GI tolerability in terms of incidence, severity and duration.8
